AMC Networks owns and operates several popular and award-winning brands in cable television. AMC, IFC, SundanceTV, WE tv and BBC America produce and deliver distinctive, compelling and culturally relevant content that engages audiences across multiple platforms.

AMC is best known for producing the drama series Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Hell on Wheels and Walking Dead. Mad Men was the first series to the the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama four years in a row.

The company also operates BBC AMERICA through a joint venture with BBC Worldwide. In addition, the company operates a global division, AMC Networks International, which consists of global brands AMC and Sundance Channel as well as popular, locally recognized channels in various programming genres.

In 2014, AMC reported revenues of $2.176 billion, a 36.7% increase, and net income of $260.8 million.

President and Chief Executive Officer Josh Sapan said: "The fourth quarter and full-year 2014 was strong for AMC Networks with double digit percentage increases in our revenue and cash flow. The strong performance of our original programming with record ratings at our national networks has led to continued increases in affiliate fees and advertising revenues. The AMC channel, which stood for American Movie Classics, was first launched on October 1, 1984. The channel originally aired classic movies in unedited form at. Today, AMC offers movies and original programs and is available in 97 million homes.

IFC was launched in 1994 as a spinoff of Bravo Network, then owned by Cablevision. It was known as the Independent Film Channel. Today, IFC can be seen in more than 62 million households.

Sundance Channel was launched in February 1996 to showcase independent films. It was acquired by Rainbow Media, a subsidiary of Cablevision, in 2007 for $496 million.

AMC Networks was spun off as a separate company on July 1, 2011 from its parent company Cablevision Systems with its own stock listing.
